Last night, there were three firsts.
The first of the firsts (redundant?) was dinner. My girlfriend GeeGee and I had plans to hang out, and we decided to meet up for dinner, since neither of us felt like cooking. She suggested Freebirds, and I had never been, so it sounded like a great choice to me! For those of you from the Midwest like me, Freebirds is very similar to Chipotle, but they have some different (and awesome) ingredients. You have different choices of wraps, including chayenne and spinach. Although I stuck with the whole wheat, I went for some different choices.
Inside the whole wheat tortilla was white cilantro rice, carnitas, black beans, grilled onions and bell peppers, Monterrey cheese, and garlic sprinkles. Okay, so maybe I didn’t opt for too many different ingredients than I would at Chipotle… but it was freaking delicious.
We sat and chatted for a little over an hour before heading on home. On my way, I stopped at the grocery to pick up a wine of the week. I wasn’t really sure what I was in the mood for, so I stopped at the rack of wine on special, and found Big House Red.
The bold label struck my eye, and I carried it around while I checked out some other wines. Although I’ve been trying to stray from wines with a screw cap instead of a cork (yes, I’m collecting for a Pinterest project), there were no other wines that seemed right. Plus it was $6.30. This bottle could fit right in with our home decor, don’t you think?
This wine is made in Soledad, CA, and gets its name because it’s located fairly close to a large correctional facility. I really think that’s kind of hilarious. They also have a wine called ‘The Slammer,’ which I probably would have really been drawn to. But that also may have been dangerous for a quiet Thursday evening. Ha!
I really liked Big House Red because it had a clean, fruity berry taste. It was pretty perfect for a night on the couch watching Grey’s Anatomy. I think I’ll definitely be checking out some of the other wines from the Big House line!
My third new venture for the evening I can blame on my sweet tooth. A little bit of ice cream after dinner sounded great, so I went and browsed the frozen section. I had remembered seeing some of the frozen yogurt by Ben & Jerry’s on a few blogs, so I decided to give it a try!
Admittedly, I plopped down on the couch with the quart and spoon in hand. Although I practiced my will power and only dug out approximately one serving. 200 calories and 3 g of fat isn’t terrible for dessert if you ask me!
Well I’m off to start my day. I’m looking forward to this evening, which involves a movie on the couch with Kyle, and most likely a large glass of Big House Red.
Tell me your wine of the week!
