This weekend was, without a doubt, the best weekend of my life. So far. Kyle and I have our whole lives to make many more best weekends ever, because this weekend we got engaged!
The shock still hasn’t completely worn off. Here’s the story!
Yesterday was Kyle’s 28th birthday, and we had planned to celebrate with our friends this weekend. We wanted to keep Friday night low key since we knew that Saturday would be a busy day enjoying adult beverages at the pool and a cookout. Kyle said he picked up a bottle of wine to relax with a bit after dinner that night.
So, we cooked dinner, poured some wine, and watched an episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix. We then decided on Kyle opening his birthday gifts from his family and myself, since we had down time and the rest of the weekend would be busy. After opening his gifts, he said that he had gotten a really nice card from his coworkers that day and he wanted to show me. So, he went to retrieve said card from another room. He sat down next to me on the couch and handed me the card. The front was clearly a ‘birthday card.’
The inside, a ‘birthday card’ of sorts.
Kyle said that while I was reading the card, I looked decently confused. After reading the card, I looked up not quite sure what was going on. Then he held up the most beautiful, sparkly ring I’ve ever seen.
I started crying.
Then I tackled him and said ‘Absolutely.’
He put the ring on my shaking finger. More flowing of tears and lots of happiness pouring from both of us.
I had absolutely no idea he planned to propose soon. I’ve been wanting it for a while, but didn’t expect it until next year. I always knew that when he did propose, I would never see it coming. I was more surprised than I thought, and I couldn’t be happier!!
Then we spent an hour calling our family and friends. As I came to find out, the only people who knew it was happening were my mother, my aunt, and his immediate family. My sisters had no idea! I think they were more surprised than I was. When I called them I couldn’t get a word in, because all they were doing was screaming.
Kyle and I agreed we needed to celebrate, so we called my sisters to come down. He spun me around and called me fiance and I started crying again.(I fear for my make-up on our wedding day.)
Like any normal couple, once my sisters were there, we had them take our first engagement picture.
Then a more ‘proper’ one.
I love this man so much!
The next morning before the pool party, my sisters took me out to get a manicure since I’d be showing my hand off all day. Super sweet of them to do that!
Naturally we followed the manicure up with a mimosa!
The pool party on Saturday was filled with fun and excitement. Still a little bit of shock. But mostly happiness. 🙂
Kyle and I have not set a date yet, but we do know that the wedding will be in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That is where he is from, and that is where I want to have it. We have a lot of friends from college in Indiana and it makes sense to me. Our first step is choosing a date and venue. The wedding will likely take place between May – September 2014.
Thank you all SO MUCH for all your kind words. I appreciate it more than you know!
Hope you all have a marvelous Monday like I will have!
