Do you ever wake up in the morning absolutely starving? That happened to me this morning. At 5 AM.

I’m blaming it on the 3-hour walk, hike jog we did out at Arbor Hills Nature Reserve yesterday. Yes, three hours. Yes, it was a long time! And my legs are super sore today. Kyle is training for a Spartan Race this fall, so his workouts have revved up significantly to train for it. I, on the other hand, haven’t moved for more than 5-6 miles consecutively since the Rock ‘n Roll half marathon in March 2013. Yesterday we did almost 11.

I actually surprised myself with the pace at which I was able to run on the trails for the jogging we did. We were supposed to jog, but I was pace setting us and I kept us at more of a run for myself, meaning it was a jog for Kyle. We probably ran 3 out of the 10.8 miles we did yesterday. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but running and walking on trails makes a HUGE difference than pavement! By the end of hour two I was starting to feel the burn pretty badly. I don’t think I could have physically walked any longer once we finished hour three!

Regardless of how tired I was, the workout was actually pretty fun. Spending time with Kyle during a workout always makes it go by more quickly. We’ve currently penciled in a couple more of these workouts on our calendar, but we’ll see what else the Spartan Race training has in store!

In the meantime, today is Costco day! Filling up our fridge with food is probably my favorite day of the month. Time to get this meal plan done so I can make my list!

  • Ground turkey (2 pounds for lunches and stuffed peppers)
  • Quinoa
  • Bacon
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Nut butter
  • Wash and chop fruit and veggies
