Move It Monday: Jump Around The Gym

Do you enjoy exercise videos? My favorites are P90X and ChaLean Extreme. I’ll throw in some Insanity or Jillian Michaels when I’m looking for more of a cardio workout. But, I also have a confession…

I have never followed a DVD exercise program to completion.
Why?
It can get monotonous. One can easily suffer from boredom and develop the ‘I-refuse-to-do-this-again’ attitude.
Yes, I think they are all amazing programs. (At least the ones I’ve listed above and I have tried.) And you will see results if you follow them incorporated with the right eating habits. But for me, I need to switch it up or I will no longer want to pop in a DVD that I can repeat Tony Horton or Chalene word for word. It’s probably also why I got sick of running in the middle of my half marathon training program.
Maybe I just don’t like people telling me what to do? (Well… I know that’s true.)
Sometimes you need to do the workout you feel like doing. Maybe you need to get it out of your system and then jump back into the program feeling refreshed. Maybe that includes jumping around from one side of the gym to the other! That’s usually what it means for me.
There are days where I’ll lift with just dumbbells. This is how most at home programs are, and I do truly enjoy them. But then there are days when I want to play with all the equipment at the gym, and that’s okay too!
What is your favorite equipment at the gym? Do you use the machines or hit the free weights? Or do you strictly workout at home?
