With fall quickly approaching, there is one activity that we are excited to get out and enjoy.
It’s been such a super busy summer with weddings and traveling – not only for Kyle and I, but all of our friends and family as well! Now that things are slowing down and coming to a close, we’re getting our first camping trips of the season booked on the calendar.
Mid-summer isn’t exactly the most terrific time to plan a camping trip in Texas. Unless you enjoy sleeping in blazing hot weather, that is! The beginning of fall, when it starts to cool down at night so you can sleep comfortably, is perfect.
When I was younger, we never took family vacations to the beach. We always went camping instead, and (although we never knew anything different) we loved it. As a kid, there seems to be endless activities. Roads to bike, trees to climb, trails to explore…
Now as an adult, camping is one of the most relaxing activities we do! Sadly, we don’t get out to the camping parks that often. But when we do, we make sure to soak up as much nature as possible!
There are plenty of camping grounds in Texas with water access and beautiful trails. We can take our dog to swim or go for a long hike in the morning, and then come back in the afternoon for a nice long nap or relax while reading a new book. (PS I’m totally into Gillian Flynn’s books lately! You’ll need to bring one along on your next camping excursion ;))
Besides outdoor activities, lounging around, grilling and making hot sandwiches over the campfire, I get an excuse to do one of my favorite things – wear gym clothes all.weekend.long. What’s more relaxing than that? Target® is one of my go-to stores when I want to do some shopping, especially for gym clothes. The Target C9 by Champion brand is full of stylish, colorful options during any season. They make my all-time favorite sports bras, which are super comfortable! Obviously, the only thing I wear while camping!
While camping is a blast, I always try to maintain a resemblance of my healthy lifestyle while we’re roughin’ it out in the woods. Just because you don’t have a refrigerator doesn’t mean you need to grab a bunch of processed food to eat! I like to pack easy snacks like trail mix, beef jerky, homemade tortilla chips, carrots, and hummus, which will all stay just fine in a cooler over the weekend or if left outside for a little while! And make sure to bring LOTS of water. Gotta stay hydrated while we’re out on the hiking trails. I also make sure to bring plenty of changes of all those gym clothes – hiking and outdoor activities can get dirty!
We actually have our first weekend to camp on the calendar, but don’t have a location locked down yet. We’ve done Joe Pool and Loyd Park in the past, which are both in the Dallas area. I think we might explore something a little farther north this time!
What are your favorite fall activities? Do you like to go camping?
