I’m working to step up my smoothie game. And I’ve been craving them like crazy lately! Mostly during the day when I’m at work and don’t have access to anything or anywhere to buy one. FAIL. But on the weekends, and the occasional weeknight dessert, they’re my fav.
And obviously…I’m all about chocolate. Which is probably the reason I don’t have too many recipes. They’re creamy chocolate banana smoothies almost every single time. It’s a rough life being a blogger!
It’s not like my chocolate cravings are much different than normal, but these days? Sweet tooth is outta control. And this whole healthy eating during pregnancy thing is really freaking hard. Ice cream seems like the iconic pregnancy food. Is it just me? It’s totally stereotypical. I mean, I can see myself sitting on the couch polishing off a pint of ice cream right now…not like THAT is much different than normal either. Which is kinda my point. I’ve done a pretty great job of balancing my eats despite the desire to eat cookies and ice cream every day.
Smoothies are my lifesaver. For a couple reasons…1) I really don’t need to be eating ice cream several times a week. 2) I also really don’t want to spend extra money on snacks I don’t ‘need.’ So, I gotta turn to the healthy stuff I already have and make something that will satisfy my craving without too many extra calories. (Although, I swear, my caloric needs are through the roof. I’M ALWAYS HUNGRY.) Truth be told, this creamy chocolate banana smoothie hasn’t been my only weapon in this battle. Cereal has been doing a pretty great job too. I’ve even been eating cereal for breakfast here and there, which is HIGHLY unusually. Y’all know my love for eggs, and cereal typically doesn’t ever fill me up. But now that I’m hungry 24/7, eggs don’t always fill me up either, so I just go with what sounds best in the moment. Like my smoothies, I make healthier choices in cereal. Nothing super sugary. In fact, my latest favorites are Raisin Bran and Rice Chex with almond milk!
Maybe I should try making one of those into a smoothie?! I do have a healthier puppy chow recipe coming up. That could be an interesting twist.

Creamy Chocolate Banana Smoothie
Yield 1 smoothie
- 1 cup sliced banana, frozen
- 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
- 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
- splash vanilla extract
- dash of stevia (optional)
- Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until all banana chunks are mixed up.
- Serve with chocolate chips and chia seeds (optional).
