I read this article about how American’s rush their meals. In Europe (I think it called out France specifically?) People dedicate 2.5 hours a day to meals. It’s a social event. Meals are to be enjoyed and spent with the people you love. Cross the pond to America and people want food fast, eating alone and on-the-go. Always off to the next thing.
Sadly, our weekdays look a lot like this. We’re gone a total of 11 hours a day, which includes 1.5–2 hours worth of commute. I eat breakfast at work. Lunch is eaten at my desk. Dinner is hard these days—we usually have something prepped to heat up or throw together and we eat in front of the TV while feeding baby girl and trying to unwind a bit after the work day. But the weekends? Breakfast is my absolute favorite.
Not just because I love breakfast food. But because we can slow down and spend time together when we make breakfast. We’ll spend at least an hour in the kitchen listening to music, talking, sipping coffee and cooking. And then we eat! A weekend breakfast like this is definitely better for you. Not just because the food you’ll make is healthy. Because you can take the time to appreciate it, and spend time with each other.

I think the best part about our weekend breakfast, aside from spending time together, is the coffee. We really do love our caffeine! I’m totally okay with it too. Honestly, our entire weekend mornings revolve around coffee. The first thing we do when we wake up is brew a large pot. We’ll sit and chat over coffee, watch our favorite shows or go for a walk. It’s hard to imagine that I gave up caffeine for the first two trimesters of pregnancy! Coffee during the week is just as rushed as our meals are, but we tend to savor it a little more on the weekends.
Coffee creamers are usually my little weekend treat. Usually I drink my coffee black—but on the weekends I tend to savor it a little more with some extra flavor! Especially now that I’ve found these seriously delicious creamers at Target by International Delight. The Simply Pure creamers have only a few ingredients and none of the extra junk you’ll find in most of them at the store. It’s my favorite way to add a little sweetness to our savory breakfast mornings! You can get them 20% off right now at Target if you use the Cartwheel app, too!

I’m gonna try to make it a point to put more appreciation into mealtime. Especially at home, when we really have no excuse.
Will you join me to take the time to slow down and sip your coffee?

I love breakfast on the weekends. Breakfast is my favorite meal. I usually make pancakes on the weekend. During the week though, I have sausage already cooked and just heat up something. In the last couple weeks I bring lunch and dinner to work as I have worked a few 8 to 8 days. This means I peave at 7 and dont get home till 9 and pretty much go right to bed. I work through my lunch too. To sum it up I was stressed and miserable after those weeks. I find a linch break to be necessary to refresh but that isnt always in the cards which is unfortunate in our society.
