Wanna know something weird? I honestly can’t remember the last time I drank real milk.

Growing up, milk was the drink of choice. We went through several gallons a week. While my dad was the biggest milk drinker, I’d have it on occasion with dinner – but always with cereal in the morning! Cereal was a major food group for me up to my early college years. I lived off the stuff!

Now? Ehhh…not so much. Cereal happens on occasion, but real milk hasn’t appeared in our house. Ever, actually! Not since I discovered the delicious alternatives from Silk! I discovered Silk products a few years ago when I started blogging. An alternative to regular milk sounded absurd at first – until I tried it. I might venture to say it was life changing, because I am awkwardly dramatic at times. Who talks that way about milk, really?

So, Silk products show up in any and all of my recipes that would normally require milk. I use it in soups, smoothies, and casseroles. Then, on day I discovered a new product from Silk. I did a double take, because it couldn’t honestly be true. Cashewmilk?! My eyes did NOT deceive me – it actually exists!

I was baffled, and instantly excited. Thinking about my vanilla cashew butter I created about a year ago – I realized the amazing possibilities my smoothie game could advance to with this delicious new milk from Silk! (Is this cheesy enough for you yet? I swear, I love food so much – I can’t make this stuff up. These are real and raw emotions, people.)

Let’s go back to this whole no-longer-a-milk drinker thing. I never did like whole milk, and we always drank skim. But skim milk seems kinda watery to me now. Silk® Cashewmilk is creamier than skim milk – and the added bonus? It has fewer calories and no saturated fat! I typically purchase the unsweetened versions of Silk brands, which have 1/3 the calories of regular skim milk. Cashewmilk also has 45% DV of calcium and 25% DV of vitamin D – two key nutrients I need to pay attention to.

Since I’m an eggs for breakfast kinda chick now, my smoothies usually appear in the afternoon when I’m in need of an alternative to the sweets I’m craving. Silk products are always my favorite liquid additive, and Cashewmilk is no different. Here is an avocado banana version that I tried!

Cashew Milk Avocado Banana Smoothie


  • ½ banana, frozen in slices
  • ½ cup ice cubes
  • ¼ cup avocado
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • ¾ – 1 cup of Unsweetened Cashewmilk (depending on smoothie consistency preference)
  • Dash of stevia


  1. Blend and serve!
