all about the shoulders

So, I ended up with no workout yesterday. It was a busy day, and thought the entire day that it was Tuesday, since I had gone in for a full day on Sunday. I was really confused about an NFL game airing on a Tuesday Night… And then Kyle said there was a new episode of Castle set to record and I snapped out of my daze and realized it was Monday.
Needless to say, I took the evening to relax. 🙂 I definitely didn’t watch any of Castle. Zzz.

This morning I geared up for a good workout. I went for a mile jog before doing ChaLean Extreme Lean Circuit 2. No evidence of my run this morning, I went without my phone, which meant no music or Endomondo. I think I’m going to try to keep my warm up runs like that!
Lean Circuit 2 focused a lot on the shoulders. My shoulders aren’t sore yet…but I’m expecting them to be tomorrow! Chalene did a little bit of instruction on the different muscle groups, showing which muscle you were working with each move. Here’s a diagram of the three distinct muscles in the shoulder Chalene worked this morning.

I also found this article, which discusses some different functions for each muscle. The anterior deltoid is used in exercises for the chest, such as bench pressing. You can also do front raises or an Arnold press to develop this muscle.

The medial or lateral deltoid work to bring your arms out from your sides. Doing simple lateral raises (side dumbbell raises) will work this muscle group.
The posterior deltoid helps to bring the arms outward. These can be worked by performing bent over lateral raises and upright rows
Now you know everything about your shoulders. Or not, but maybe now your know more! 🙂
After my workout, I jumped in the shower then made a quick pumpkin protein shake for breakfast. It was delicious!
What was in it?
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin spice
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed (now that’s its out and organized, I remember to use it more often!)
  • 1 scoop protein powder
On a sidenote…we are having Thanksgiving in Dallas this year. So far as I know, just me and Kyle! I might try my hand at making a pumpkin pie. But we both really love pumpkin pie. So the thought of that is scary. Eek!
Back to work for me. The day better go fast…we’re going to an Eve 6 and Everclear concert tonight. Should be a ton of fun!!
