I’ve been meaning to try one of these green smoothies for a while, and today seems like the perfect day to tell you all about it my first experience! I think the green smoothie can fall under the ‘sensible snacking’ category as well. There are lots of days where my lunch or breakfast isn’t a huge meal, and my snacks help keep me going through the day. A green smoothie would be a great snack between meals to do just that. But before we get to the main feature of WIAW, let’s recap starting with dinner last night.
The chicken I marinated with lemon juice, dill, garlic salt, pepper, and thyme, with a little EVOO drizzled on top. They were cooked in a skillet with chicken broth.
Some of my other snack yesterday included a blueberry muffin Larabar. Which amazed me yet again at how closely they resemble the taste of the actual muffin!
I also happened to finish off a jar of peanut butter while I was making a yummy protein snack I will be sharing soon!
My First Green Smoothie
For the longest time, the thought of putting spinach into a protein shake or smoothie kind of weirded me out. But this morning, I finally decided to try my hand at one. I mean, green is my favorite color, so it can’t really be that bad! And I was right, because it was delicious!
In my smoothie, I added the following:
- 1 cup spinach
- 2/3 frozen banana (the rest didn’t fit in the magic bullet)
- 1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of milled flaxseed
- 1 scoop of strawberry flavored whey protein powder
There wasn’t too much of a spinach taste in it, and the banana flavor was pretty prominent, which I like. I could taste the strawberry protein powder too. I think this combo would be good with any flavor of protein powder.
This smoothie was surprisingly filling. Which makes it a good breakfast option when I’ve got a busy morning, like I do today.
And since my morning is so busy, and I have lots to get done in the lab today, I’ll fill you in on my workout later on! Happy Wednesday!
