Ooh vacation…. how I love you, and how my body dislikes you. During the week, I did pretty well keeping up with making healthy choices, considering that July 4th fell on a Wednesday this year. Thursday was a planned ‘off day’ from working out, though I manged to fit in a 2.5 mile walk at school. However, some unplanned school and family related events caused my workout on Friday to get pushed because I was stressed out. (Stress relief and prevention is something I desperately need to work on. If I didn’t have Kyle to try and calm me down from time to time, I’d be at my wits end.) This carried into Saturday and Sunday with a side of adult beverages and delicious food.
I won’t complain about the massive amounts of fun I had over the weekend. My body might though. Before I launch into my plan of attach for recuperation, I’ll show you a few fun pics from the lake!

When I saw ‘cookout’, I really mean ‘boil.’ I had never heard of one of these before, but this was a shrimp boil, which also had sausage, potatoes, and corn in the mix.
and of course…I came home on Sunday and got some cuddle time with Barkley. He was also worn out from playing with his puppy friend all weekend.

I tried to get up at 5:00 AM this morning. It was clearly not happening. Even at 6:00 AM, my eyes were swollen with sleep and my body was sluggish. I made it to the gym about 6:45 AM, which was later than I had planned on, but I was determined to get in a good workout. It’s time to get out of vacation mode and get back in the swing of things. I ended up with a better cardio session than I anticipated, I didn’t think my body would physically be capable of running. But it was, for 35 minutes.
For cardio, I did 35 minutes of a light run, ramping from 5 mph to 6 mph as I went. I then had 5 minutes of walking including a warm-up and cool down. My strength workout focused on chest and triceps, with a quick ab workout at the end. I accidentally hit the wrong button on my heart rate monitor half way through lifting.. oops!
I had never really incorporated seated pec flies into my workouts before. They were a little more difficult than I expected, and I had to lower my weight for the second sets of reps. I was pretty pleased with how the workout went, though. I’m making it my goal to lift at least three times a week. I’m struggling a little bit with what my real fitness goals are. Whether I want to focus on cardio training, or whether I want to work on muscle strength and toning. We’ll see which direction I go!
Our veggies were pretty much depleted, at least anything I would have liked to throw in my eggs this morning. So I went with a one whole egg and two egg white scramble topped with a little Feta cheese and some turkey bacon on the side.
My goal this week is to drink my body weight in ounces of water, hopefully every day. I need to flush out some of the nonsense from the holiday. Unfortunately, Barkley chewed up my usual water jug this morning, so I stopped by the Dollar General and purchased these bad boys to get me threw the day.
Right now I’m about half way to my goal, so I think it’s definitely achievable.
I think it’s about time to get some lunch ready, and start making a to-do list for this afternoon. Hope you all have a great day!
