new fitness app: fitbit

Today has flown by… at least I’ve been productive for (most) of it! On the menu for lunch today were some lean ground beef burgers that Kyle whipped up this morning. They were seasoned with Mrs. Dash Table Blend, garlic salt, Lawry’s seasoned salt, and chili powder.

It was a good combo! They were served with a half an avocado. Enough avocado for every bite!

On to the point of my post….

I learned about a new fitness app from Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean blog last week. She wrote a  post about a little device called the Fitbit. The Fitbit is a wireless device that tracks your activity throughout the day. It will track steps, distance, stairs climbed, even sleep patterns. You can also upload your calorie intake and workout, so you can set fitness and weight loss goals. After reading Lindsay’s post, I gave the Fitbit a look by downloading the free app on my iPhone. So far, I love it! Below is a screen shot of the goals you can set. (To use some of these on the iPhone app, however, you need to buy the wireless tracker, which syncs with your app and website.)

It tracks the estimated calories you would burn during the day, and recalculates the calories you would need to maintain (or lose) your weight according to what workouts you log that day. It will also tell you whether you are ‘in the zone’ for your calorie intake during the day.

One of the things I like is that your Fitbit account syncs with other fitness apps, such as Endomondo! I don’t need to enter my running workouts or walks with Barkley, because it automatically logs a workout into Fitbit when I complete it. I think the Fitbit device is going to be my next big purchase. (It’s only $100, but on a college budget, I’ll have to cut out shopping for a couple of weeks :) ) If you want to get a good review from a happy owner of the Fitbit, check out Lindsay’s post on her blog!
